Lau Pa Sat means ''Old Market'' in the hokkien dialect. This was Singapore's first wet market dating back over 150 years ago. Subsequently converted into a famous gourmet paradise. 1) Laksa

This dish is of Peranakan origins which consists of thick rice noodles in spicy gravy fragrant with herbs and coconut milk.

2) Chilli crab

This dish originates from Singapore itself! Created in 1950 by a Singapore Chef called Cher Yam Tian. Mud crab are commonly used and are stirred fried in a semi-thick, sweet and savouring tomato and chilli based sauce. Despite its name, chilli crab is not a very spicy dish. This dish can be eaten with rice and the gravy is best eaten with ''Mantou''(chinese buns).

3) Satay

Also known as kebab in America. Satay is a dish of marinated skewered and grilled meats served with peanut sauce. Satay may consists of diced or sliced chicken,goat,mutton and beef. Served with raw onions, cucumber and ketupat(rice cakes).

4) Hainanese Chicken Rice

Hainanese chicken rice is a dish of Chinese origin most commonly associated with Hainanese cuisine, Malaysian cuisine and Singaporean cuisine. The rice used for this dish is cooked in chicken stock which will give a fragrant smell and flavour the rice. Chicken rice is best eaten with blended chilli and pounded ginger. For those who do not fancy spicy sauces or condiments can go for dark soya sauce with makes the dish equally tasty!

5) Ice Kachang (Local Dessert)

This is a dessert served in Malaysia and Singapore. Served with sweet flavoured syrup and jelly, this dish is sweet-tasting and is primarily ice served with 'kachang' The word 'kachang' is a Malay word for bean as well as nuts. There are other variety of ingredients that can be added to this dish such as grass jelly, sweet corn, durian syrup, chocolate syrup and ice cream!

Destination: Singapore Night Safari

The Singapore Night Safari is the first of its type in the world. It is home to several rare animals like the African bongo, cape buffalo, striped hyena, blue sheep, golden jackal, and the one-horned rhinoceros. The thing that makes the Night Safari different from the nocturnal sections in other zoos is that you get to see the animals busy in their nightlife prowling and hunting for food.

There are 2 routes namely the east loop and west loop which totals up to 3.2km of which 2.8km is walkway. The safari park can be explored by the taking the walking route which is the Three Walking Trails or by Tram ride. You will cover 41 exhibits on foot and only 18 exhibits if you take the tram ride. There are also live animal shows available at specific timings and are a must see should you visit the Night Safari.

There are still some ways which you can make your experience at the Night Safari more enjoyable:

1) Bring an umbrella or raincoat as he rain is sometimes unexpected to its better to be prepared.

2) Bring along insect repellent to make sure that mosquitoes and other creepy crawlies really stay away although there are some measures taken to keep them at bay.

3)An ample supply of water and drinks are available at the stores as well.

4)Appropriate footwear(shoes) are recommended.
